The microwave quits in the middle of a cook, goes quiet, and shows E2. An internal safety limit tripped, so the unit shut itself off to avoid running hotter than it should. This is most common after a long session or when a built-in model has little air around it. If the temperature cutoff part has failed, the shutoff can happen early or for no reason at all.
1. Open the door and let the microwave rest for about 20 minutes. 2. Make sure nothing blocks the vents or sits against the sides. 3. Switch it off at the breaker for two minutes, then back on. 4. Run a short, low-power test with a cup of water. If E2 returns, stop and call us. Do not remove the cover.
One short test at low power after cooling is reasonable. If E2 comes back quickly, stop using it, because the shutoff exists to prevent overheating and something is still wrong.
It can. Built-in units need clearance for airflow as the installation instructions describe. If the space is cramped and the error appears after long use, ventilation may be the cause.
