Freeport is where Brazoria County meets the Gulf: a port city ringed by levees, with chemical plants and ship channels on one side and homes a few miles from the beach on the other. Salt air here reaches appliances that never go outdoors.
What we find in Freeport homes, and how it shapes a Bosch repair here.
The Freeport Sulphur Company founded the town in November 1912 with about 300 residents. Growth took off in 1939, when Dow Chemical began building the plants that remain the city's largest employer. Port Freeport now ships international cargo, and about 10,700 people lived in the city in 2020.
Freeport is a member city of the Brazosport Water Authority, which treats Brazos River water at its Lake Jackson plant. The city also sells water to the neighboring Village of Surfside Beach. A dispenser that tastes off after line work usually clears with a few minutes of flushing.
The Velasco Drainage District maintains about 43 miles of levees and wave barriers, eight pump stations and a vertical lift gate, built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1960s to keep Gulf surge out. Inside them, salt-laden air still corrodes condenser coils and exposed screws.
We see a lot of freestanding ranges, top-mount and bottom-freezer refrigerators and stacked laundry here, plus Bosch dishwashers added during remodels. Coastal exposure means we check for rust on mounting brackets and hinges whenever we pull an appliance out.
Freeport is at the south end of Highway 288, beyond Lake Jackson and Clute, and we schedule it with those towns, usually for the next day. If traffic near the port or the plants pushes an arrival back, we call ahead with an updated time.
Fine salt drifts inland on the Gulf breeze and settles everywhere. On a refrigerator it coats the condenser coil, which then holds dust and moisture and starts to corrode. Vacuum the coil through the lower grille every few months, wipe stainless and painted surfaces with a damp cloth, and keep laundry room windows shut when the wind blows off the water. A little care slows the rust we otherwise find on hinges, screws and electrical terminals.
Not necessarily. Light surface rust is common near the coast. We check whether the coil and fan still move heat properly and whether corrosion has reached wiring or connectors, then tell you what actually needs attention.
Yes. If you work rotating shifts, tell us the days you are home, and we will book the visit then. A neighbor or family member can also let the technician in.
Always. After diagnosis the technician explains what failed and gives you the price, and nothing is repaired until you agree to it. You can take time to think it over before deciding.
Book in about a minute, or call the desk. Same-day windows inside the Loop on most days, next-day across the rest of Houston.
