What Er:16 means

At the start of a cycle a Bosch Nexxt washer takes a reference reading with the drum empty, and everything it measures afterward depends on that zero. Er:16 means the calibration did not succeed. Without a zero, water levels become guesswork. Bosch gives the same pair of suspects as for Er:15, the sensor or its wiring.

Common causes of Er:16

  • Sensor out of range or worn out
  • Water left in the tub, so no true zero is possible
  • Air tube or wiring problem distorting the signal
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Look into the empty drum through the open door and make sure no water is left. 2. If any remains, run a drain or spin program first. 3. Check that the washer is level by setting a small level on top and adjusting the feet. 4. Start a new cycle. A machine that never drains fully cannot find its zero, so drain problems must be solved first.

! Why to stop there
  • Adjusting feet on a heavy washer by yourself is awkward and can strain your back.
  • A washer that never fully drains has a separate problem that needs attention before the sensor is blamed.
  • Replacing a sensor that is only reacting to leftover water would waste the part.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Er:16Er:16 questions
How does the washer calibrate?

It takes a reading with an empty drum and treats it as zero. Later readings are compared against it, so a wrong zero makes every water level off.

Could an unlevel washer cause Er:16?

It can contribute, since water pools unevenly in a tilted tub. Leveling is a free check and worth doing even if it is not the cause.

What's the difference between Er:15 and Er:16?

Er:15 means the sensor's voltage is invalid. Er:16 means calibration failed. The causes are the same, but Er:16 can also come from water left in the tub.
