What E009 means

A range that shows E009 has stopped heating, often right after a storm or a power cut. Every time the user interface powers up, it checks its own program memory, and this time the check failed. For safety, Bosch turns off all heating elements while the error is active, which takes out the oven and, on electric and induction models, the surface too. The manual says it clears at start-up if the next check passes.

Common causes of E009

  • Corrupted program memory in the user interface
  • Power surge or outage that interrupted a memory operation
  • User interface board that is wearing out
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the range off at the breaker and wait two minutes so it repeats the memory check on the next start. 2. Restore power. 3. If the range runs normally, note the date, because one occurrence after an outage is reasonable to try once. 4. If E009 returns, stop using the range and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Repeated power cycling on a damaged board can corrupt more of its memory.
  • Replacing the interface when the cause was a one-time outage is money spent for nothing.
  • Open panels expose live wiring, and there is no external test for a memory chip anyway.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E009E009 questions
My range came on again after the lights flickered. Is it fixed?

It passed its next memory check, which matches Bosch's documented behavior. Whether the board is healthy is separate, so watch for a repeat. If it lights again without trouble, nothing needs replacing yet.

Does this stop my gas burners too?

On a gas model, burners can usually be lit by hand. Electric and induction surfaces rely on the same control and will stay off. Do not force an electric surface to work around the code; keep the range off until it is checked.

Is a new interface board always required?

No. If the check passes after a reset and stays that way, nothing needs replacing. A code that keeps coming back points to the board. We can confirm that with a quick check.
