What E106 means

Start a self-clean, watch it quit, and see E106. The control asked the oven door latch to lock and never got confirmation. Bosch spells out the limit: if no lock is confirmed inside a minute, the attempts end. The error then lapses once a locked door is not needed, so everyday baking keeps working and the problem appears only when a clean is requested.

Common causes of E106

  • Spill residue that keeps the door from closing true
  • Latch motor or its switch that has died
  • Broken wiring between the control module and the latch
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the oven is off and cold. 2. Inspect the door gasket and the recess where the latch hook lands for baked-on spills; on a range the door hangs low and gets splashed. 3. Confirm no pan or rack is nudging the door ajar. 4. If everything is clean and E106 returns, book a visit.

! Why to stop there
  • Chipping at the latch area with a blade can bend the hook.
  • A latch that fails only during cleaning is easy to blame on the control and replace at the wrong end.
  • Repeating clean cycles to test it pours heat into a cavity whose lock is unconfirmed.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E106E106 questions
Is baking still possible with E106 around?

Typically yes. Regular baking never locks the door, and Bosch drops the error once no lock is demanded, so the oven keeps cooking normally. Only the cleaning feature is affected.

Why does it show only on clean days?

Self-clean is the one job that asks the latch to work. A tired latch hides through months of ordinary cooking until that cycle gets selected. Normal use never exercises the lock mechanism.

Does a dirty gasket really matter?

It can. If spills keep the door from seating squarely, the latch has nothing to grab. A cleanup sometimes solves it; if not, we measure the motor and switch and quote in writing.
