What E-11 means

On a Bosch over-the-range microwave, E-11 means one of the control keys has appeared pressed for a full sixty seconds. The service manual defines it as a key shorted for one minute. That differs from the plain E11 on other generations of Bosch microwave, which is documented as a separate problem. Over-the-range fascias sit above the cooking surface and collect grease, which is why a key may read as held.

Common causes of E-11

  • Film of cooking grease bridging a control key
  • Something leaning against the control panel
  • Keypad membrane worn out or damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the microwave. 2. Check that nothing, such as a hanging towel, is resting against the panel. 3. Wipe the keypad with a barely damp cloth, then dry it. 4. Wait a few minutes, plug in and try again. If E-11 stays, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Wet cleaners can run behind the keys and damage the board.
  • A worn membrane can look clean but still read as pressed, so more wiping only wastes effort.
  • Opening the housing to reach the board exposes high-voltage parts.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E-11E-11 questions
Is E-11 the same as E11?

No. The E-11 code on over-the-range models means a key was held for a minute, while E11 on other Bosch microwaves points to moisture at the panel. The fixes are different.

Why do over-the-range models get this more?

The control panel sits above the cooktop and catches grease and steam. A thin film can connect a key's contacts. Regular light wiping keeps it clear.

What if wiping does not clear E-11?

The keypad membrane may be worn and need replacing. We inspect it, give a written price before any work, and cover the repair with our 30-day warranty.
