The SHX78DC5N is a bar-handle build in the 800 Series, listed at 42 dBA with three racks sized for 16 place settings. CrystalDry handles drying, and AquaStop Plus and Home Connect are included. Compared with the SHX78DM sibling, the difference is the cycle and option list, not the hardware.
That long option list is where trouble starts. Sanitize raises the final rinse temperature and stretches the cycle, and Extra Dry does the same to the drying phase. When an owner says the dishwasher suddenly takes four hours, one of those has very often been left on.
Used all the time, Sanitize also works the heating circuit hardest. Another item we check is the door vent flap, which can stick and release steam at the wrong spot.
Look at the option buttons first. Sanitize and Extra Dry are kept from load to load on many builds, and both add a lot of time by design.
It is not harmful by itself, but it asks the most of the heater each time. Saving it for loads that call for it will treat the heater more gently.
Some venting is normal. If steam escapes somewhere odd, a sticking door vent flap may be the cause, and we can free or replace it.
