At the head of Bosch’s catalog sits Benchmark, and the SHP9PCM5N is the pocket-handle machine in that line. It runs at 38 dBA, uses CrystalDry for drying, and carries three racks for 16 place settings. Next to an 800 Series, two things stand out. One is the lower sound rating, bought with extra insulation. The other is better racking, led by a third rack, MyWay, with enough depth for mugs and not only flatware.
When we are called to one, we find the same wear patterns as on the 800 tier, only later in life. Mug-loaded MyWay rails can bind, and the zeolite drying module underperforms if its fan or duct is obstructed.
The bigger difference is time at the machine. Reaching the pump and heater means working through the extra insulation, so access takes longer than on an 800.
A quieter machine, better-made racks with the deep MyWay rack on top, and a nicer finish. The washing and drying technology is the same as you would get in an 800 Series.
Most of the parts that wear are shared with the 800 line. Where it differs is access, since more padding must be moved before we can reach the pump area.
Wipe the rails clean and dry, then check them for wear. Mugs add weight that a flatware tray never does, so the rail stops wear sooner and sometimes need replacing.
