A cooktop that displays dE and will not heat is usually in showroom mode, not broken. Here is why it happens and how to switch it back to normal use.
Every zone is dark, nothing warms up, and the display keeps showing dE. Before you assume the glass or the electronics have died, consider the likelier answer: the cooktop is in demonstration mode.
Showroom units let shoppers press buttons and watch the display respond without the elements turning on. The setting can be left active on a cooktop that was a floor model, or switched on by accident while someone was navigating the control menu.
Should the display still show dE, a technician can often step you through the correct sequence by phone, or finish the job during a short visit. It is typically among the simplest service calls on a cooktop, because no parts are involved.
Have the model number ready before you call, since it lets us match the correct exit steps without guessing. It is usually printed on a label under the cooktop or in the manual.
