Unlike a blocked drain, E:23 blames the drain pump motor. A technician measures resistance across a pair of the pump's terminals and compares it with the published value. If it reads correctly the module is suspect, and if not, the pump is. A disconnected or damaged pump cable sets off the same code, so wiring is checked before any part is ordered.
1. Start a short program. 2. Listen near the end of the fill for the drain pump. 3. A faint hum with no water moving, or silence where a clear whirr used to be, fits this code. 4. Stop the cycle, and hold off on more cycles until the pump has been looked at, and leave the measuring to a technician.
It could be. A hum with no water movement fits a pump motor that is trying and failing, though a blocked pump produces similar sounds. We check the pump and the filter.
You can bail the tub with a cup and sponge, but the dishwasher should not be run again until the pump is repaired. The water will return each cycle.
Then the pump tests normal and the module needs repair or replacement. We explain the result, and the written price covers whichever part the readings point to.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
