Controls on the front fascia are a convenience on the HGI8046UC, a black stainless version of the 800 Series gas slide-in with five burners at 71,000 BTU in total, and a 4.8 cu ft convection oven. You never reach over hot pans to adjust a flame.
The trade-off is location. The fascia sits right above the oven door, where heat climbs each time you open the door. Over years, that exposure can leave a display that dims or acts erratically, plus knobs that stiffen once grease works its way onto the valve stems. Freestanding ranges with rear controls see far less of this.
If your display has gone patchy, we do not assume the whole range is failing. We check the fascia electronics and the knob action first. A display or control board can be replaced as a part, and you see the price in writing before we begin.
It can. On a slide-in, the fascia sits above the oven door and collects the heat that escapes whenever it opens. Both the display and the control board can be replaced.
Not in normal cooking. Years of accumulated heat are what age them, and a front-control range cannot avoid that entirely. It is simply a part that wears, and it can be replaced when it does.
Grease reaching the valve stems is the usual cause, since heat and cooking vapor carry it there. Do not force the knobs, because that can damage the stem. Let us clean and inspect them instead.
