The NGM5056UC fits a 30 inch opening and carries four sealed burners rated 41,500 BTU in the 500 Series. Moving up from the 300 Series gives you more output and better burners, but the sealed burner design, valves and spark module carry over, so the parts and the repair approach stay familiar.
Because the design is shared, most problems at this level are also familiar. A spark electrode that has been fouled by boil-over residue stops ignition on one burner while the others work. A cap that is not fully seated lets the flame lift off the burner.
One report needs different handling: a gas smell. When someone tells us about it, we ask where it is strongest. On this model it is more often at the connection than at the appliance itself. If you smell gas, do not operate switches, ventilate the room and leave before calling; we begin with the connection and then the burners.
Do not light anything or touch switches. Open windows, leave the house and call your gas utility or emergency services from outside. After it is declared safe, we can inspect the connection.
The electrode at that burner is often dirty from a spill. Once the cooktop is cold, gently clean the electrode tip and make sure the cap is dry and seated. If it stays silent, it needs a visit.
It means the cap is probably sitting wrong. Turn the burner off, let it cool, and reseat the cap flat. A flame that keeps lifting should be looked at before regular use.
