Output is what people remember about the NGM5655UC. Bosch sold it as a 36 inch 500 Series gas cooktop with five sealed burners and 57,500 BTU in all, well above the current 36 inch 500 Series model, and it is now discontinued.
That much heat is worth keeping, and it also deserves respect. At full tilt the burners give off a lot of combustion moisture along with heat. If the kitchen turns steamy and nearby surfaces fog up when the cooktop is busy, the hood is usually what is falling short, not the appliance.
The highest-output burner works hardest, so its crown can erode at the ports with age. We start a visit by looking at the ventilation and how the burners burn, then inspect the crowns and caps. Many of these cooktops need only minor work to carry on well.
Gas combustion produces moisture, and a high-output cooktop makes more of it. If the room fogs up, the hood is probably not clearing enough air. It does not mean the burners are burning wrongly.
Some. The hardest-working burner wears its crown and cap sooner, and more heat is hard on grates. Regular cleaning and a hood that matches the output keep it going longer.
Not just for age. This one has far more output than the current 500 Series 36 inch model, so many owners prefer to keep it going. We advise based on what we find.
