In the SHP53EM2N, the white pocket-handle 300 Series, the controls run along the top of the door. The machine has a 46 dBA sound level, 15 place settings, a third rack, AquaStop and PureDry drying. Because of the control position, a spill that runs down the door can get to electronics that a front-panel machine keeps well away from.
One small habit prevents most trouble: dry the top edge before shutting the door after loading a dripping pan. That single wipe avoids an awkward panel repair.
If liquid does get in, the contacts corrode. Keys turn erratic or start pressing themselves, and the strip will not recover on its own. A door seal at the top edge that has hardened can also let steam reach the controls. We open the panel and look for moisture first.
Damp has spread over the touch strip along the top of the door. Once it is in, the panel has to come off to be dried or replaced, and waiting does not cure it.
Only with the door open, when the strip faces upward. Shutting the door before you wipe the counter keeps it safe.
Where moisture has only just arrived, drying may be enough. Corroded contacts need a new panel. We tell you which case you have once the panel is open.
