Put a handle bar on the 800 Series and you get the SHX78CM5N, a premium dishwasher found in kitchens across the country. It is rated 42 dBA, has three racks for 16 place settings, and combines CrystalDry with PureDry. Leak protection is AquaStop Plus, active at all hours, and Home Connect is included.
People often ask us whether it is worth choosing over a 500 Series. From where we stand at the service bench: both tiers wash the same way, the 800 adds better leak protection, and its drying really does differ. It is no more delicate than the tier beneath it.
With age, we hear a new whirr near the end of a cycle as the CrystalDry fan bearing dries out. We also find bar-handle bolts working loose through the inner door panel, and spray arm bearings that wear and leave the lower rack unevenly washed.
A whirr or rattle during drying usually comes from the CrystalDry blower, not the wash pump. We can run that blower on its own to confirm.
There are more assemblies inside, yet each is tested and swapped separately. The parts that wear out on either tier are alike: filters, door seals, racks and drain pumps.
Tighten the fixings soon. Left alone, the bolts enlarge their holes in the inner door panel and the repair gets bigger than a simple tightening.
