Here is a curious detail from Bosch’s own numbers. The bar-handle Benchmark, the SHX9PCM5N, is rated 39 dBA, while the pocket-handle Benchmark is rated 38. The decibel is no tolerance error: a bar handle stands away from the door, and that gives sound somewhere to escape. The machine also has 16 place settings, CrystalDry drying and the MyWay third rack.
That fine tuning is the reason repairs on this model call for care. Acoustic parts have to be fitted back exactly as they were removed, or the quiet that the owner paid for is lost.
Beyond noise, we look at three things as these age: handle fixings on a heavy door, third-rack jets blocked by scale where the water is hard, and anything done earlier to the insulation.
Quite often some insulation or sound mat was not seated where it was before. On a machine this quiet, the change can be heard, and it can be corrected.
Mostly a clean set of rails. Loaded with mugs, the rack is heavy, so its runners and end stops tire sooner than a flat cutlery tray's would; an occasional wipe helps it glide.
Bosch rates it one decibel higher, which is a design effect of the handle standing off the door. You would hardly notice it unless you compared both side by side.
