Bosch WGB24600UC

Most common issues on this model

  1. Short standpipe, or a hose inserted too deeply, draining the drum as it fills
  2. Fill trouble blamed on the inlet valve in error
  3. Door boot seal trapping debris and smelling musty

Most WGB24600UC washers live in laundry closets, and that is where the commonest trouble starts. This is the white 500 Series narrow model with Home Connect and a drum of 2.4 cubic feet that measures 23 1/2 inches across. What goes wrong in a closet is seldom the machine. It is the standpipe that the drain hose sits in.

If the standpipe is short, or the hose has been shoved deep into it, the washer siphons water out as fast as it takes it in. Water never builds in the drum, so the machine looks as if the inlet valve has failed, and valves get replaced for nothing. The real cause is a plumbing measurement, and it costs almost nothing to correct.

Odor is the other thing that comes with age: lint and detergent residue settle in the folds of the door boot seal. We measure the standpipe before we touch a part, and check the seal for trapped debris during the same visit.

WGB24600UCWGB24600UC questions
Why does water enter the drum and then vanish?

Most likely the drain hose is siphoning it away, because the standpipe is short or the hose has been inserted too deeply. Raising the standpipe or adding an air gap usually resolves it without any parts.

Should I replace the fill valve if the drum never fills?

Not before ruling out siphoning. We measure the standpipe and watch the fill first, since a plumbing correction costs far less than a valve and the problem looks the same. Then we test the valve if needed.

How can I keep the door seal from smelling?

Wipe the boot dry after the last load, leave the door ajar, and run a hot maintenance cycle every so often. Detergent residue and lint in the seal folds are what the odor comes from.
