What E23 means

The washer stopped and displayed E23, or F23 on some versions, because its AquaStop leak protection tripped. AquaStop is built into the fill hose and the base of the machine, and when it senses water where none should be, it closes the supply so a small leak does not flood the room. That makes the error one to treat seriously until you know where the water came from.

Common causes of E23

  • A real leak from a hose, a door seal or a valve
  • Damaged AquaStop hose that is giving a false alarm
  • Inlet valve that has failed
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the water supply tap behind the washer to the closed position. 2. Unplug the machine. 3. Look at the floor, the wall and the area under the washer for moisture. 4. Wipe any water up and check the hose fittings for drips. 5. Leave everything off and call us before you restart anything.

! Why to stop there
  • Restarting to see if the code clears may send water into a hose that is actually leaking, and that can reach your floor or the room below.
  • A wet base with power connected is a shock risk, so the machine should stay unplugged until it is dry.
  • AquaStop hoses that have activated should be inspected as a unit, since reusing a damaged one can leave you unprotected.
  • Telling a true leak from a false trip takes a look inside the machine.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E23E23 questions
Is E23 always a leak?

No. A damaged AquaStop hose can trigger it without any water on the floor, and a bad inlet valve can too. That is why we trace the source of moisture before deciding on a part.

Can I run the machine if the floor looks dry?

We advise against it. A leak can be small and hidden inside the cabinet. Keep the supply closed and the washer unplugged until someone has confirmed the source.

Does AquaStop need replacing after it trips?

Not always, but the hose should be examined. If the safety valve in it has closed, or the casing is damaged, it should be replaced rather than reused.
