Dark silver distinguishes the TPU40508 from its piano black sibling, and little else changes. This 500 Series VeroCafe makes flat white, espresso, cappuccino, americano and hot water. Its grinder has ceramic discs, grind and strength can be adjusted, and the brew unit slides out for rinsing.
If you are choosing among the 300, 500 and 800 VeroCafe levels, remember that every one of the three grinds, tamps and brews alike. The levels differ in drink variety, milk system sophistication and connectivity. What ends up in the cup is shaped far more by your beans and grind setting than by the tier.
The grind setting is also where owners can do harm: moving it while the grinder is empty can damage the burrs. Elsewhere we see milk tubes blocked for lack of rinsing, and descaling postponed until scale reaches the heating circuit. We check all of these when we visit.
Only while the grinder is running with beans in it. Turning it on a stopped grinder may damage the burrs, a costly slip on any machine of this kind.
Each tier works on the same principle. Beans, grind and upkeep decide the result much more than the tier does.
Scale builds up in the heating circuit, hurting performance and eventually stopping the machine. A routine task becomes a repair, so run the program when it is prompted.
