Bosch has withdrawn the B30IR800SP, a Benchmark column holding only fresh food. It stood 83 3/4 inches high on a 29 3/4 inch width, made for custom panels, and brought filtered water inside. Without any freezer compartment, it fails in ways that catch many owners off guard.
A column without a freezer escapes the freezer’s defrost cycle, so one entire category of problems is simply absent. In exchange, its evaporator operates near freezing point inside the fresh food space. A temperature sensor that reads even a degree or two too low will then chill the back of every shelf below freezing without announcing it, and ice may also form on the evaporator.
For that reason, a report of frozen vegetables sends us to the thermistor and to the airflow around the evaporator first. It is a precise repair, never a large one. Since temperature accuracy counts for more on this design, we also test the reading against a reference, and we inspect the door panel hardware that loosens with age.
On an all-refrigerator column, the classic cause is a thermistor reading a touch low, or poor airflow around the evaporator. The repair is targeted and modest.
No. It has fewer parts in some respects, because no freezer defrost cycle exists to go wrong. But the fresh food area runs closer to freezing, so accurate temperature sensing counts for more.
We check availability before we quote. Thermistors, fans and door hardware are ordinary refrigeration parts, and we tell you in writing if something cannot be sourced.
