If your household reaches for Air Fry a few nights a week, the HBL5455LEU is working harder than the usual wall oven. It is a 500 Series side-opening oven rated 6,400 watts, with 4.6 cubic feet inside, and Air Fry sits among its convection programs.
Air Fry is essentially high-speed convection. It spins the fan faster and longer than a normal bake does, and it throws more grease into the air. Over time that grease lands on the fan and on the baffle plate at the back of the cavity.
That makes the convection fan motor the first part to ask about as the oven ages, with the greasy baffle a close second. We look at both on a visit. We also ask whether you use a perforated tray, since Air Fry results are poor without one. Touch control, pizza and proof modes, multi-rack convection and Sabbath mode complete the package.
It makes the convection fan work harder and sends more grease onto the rear baffle. Neither does harm by itself, but they are good reasons to have the area behind the baffle cleaned now and then.
On most Bosch ovens the baffle lifts out while the power is off and the cavity is cold. It is fiddly, though, and the fan blade behind it has sharp edges, so many owners leave it for a service visit.
A perforated one. Results are poor without it, so that is the first thing we would ask about if the food comes out soft instead of crisp.
