A roast in the bottom oven of a Bosch double unit suddenly goes cold, with E222 on the screen. The probe there is reporting a number above what the control will take, so that oven stops heating until the probe is unplugged. Start with the simplest explanation: the probe sat in the cavity without being pushed into food. Hanging in hot air, it reaches oven temperature in minutes.
1. Put on an oven glove, since the probe will be hot, then unplug it from the lower socket and take it out. 2. Start the bake again with no probe. 3. If that cavity heats as normal, the probe, or how it was being used, explains the whole thing.
The code identifies the lower cavity's probe. The upper cavity has its own code and its own probe, so the upper oven can keep working normally.
Make sure the probe tip is pushed into the thickest part of the food. A probe left in open air heats to oven temperature and trips this error.
Only if E222 returns while it is correctly inserted in food. We then test the element and the cable, and quote the repair in writing.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
