What E204 means

You see E204 when the bottom oven of a Bosch double wall oven reports a shorted temperature sensor circuit. Because the reading is bleeding to ground, the bottom oven shuts its heat off and runs the cooling fan hard, and it stays that way until the control sees two good readings in a row, just as the top oven would. The service list begins with the wiring, looking for pinching or contact with metalwork, before suspecting the probe.

Common causes of E204

  • Lower sensor wires squeezed against the chassis or cavity metal
  • Probe shorted inside
  • Harness insulation damaged by heat behind the lower cavity
✓ One safe check you can try

1. There is no home check beyond working out which cavity misbehaves. 2. Run a short bake in the upper oven, then in the lower one, and write down which one fails. 3. That is what separates this code from its upper-cavity twin. 4. Do not slide the oven out to look.

! Why to stop there
  • Following wires behind a double oven means moving a very heavy unit.
  • Heat-damaged insulation can short again soon after a patch.
  • Replacing the probe will not help when the wire is what touches metal.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E204E204 questions
Is E204 the same as E104?

They are twins. E104 belongs to the upper or single cavity and E204 to the lower cavity. The cause and the repair path are the same, but they are different circuits.

Why does the lower cavity matter more here?

It does not, but the lower cavity is where heat and spills reach the harness most. Insulation there can wear sooner, so we check it carefully.

What happens at the visit?

We test the circuit, find where the wire touches metal or whether the probe is shorted, and give you a written price first. Our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
