On a Bosch double oven, the bottom compartment climbed past its permitted temperature while the door was unlocked. The oven answered by stopping the heat and locking that door itself. When the temperature falls back within range, heating returns, the latch lets go and E215 clears. The checks named by the service list cover the element, the sensor resistance and stuck relays, all pointing to heat the controls never requested.
1. Turn the entire oven off at the breaker, not only with the controls. 2. If a relay has welded shut, the element stays live even with the display dark, and in a double oven that element is in the bottom compartment, out of easy view. 3. Leave it off, and do not try to open the locked door.
Locking is part of the protection: when the cavity runs past its limit, the control closes the latch so the door cannot be opened onto extreme heat.
They share a control module, so we check both cavities on a visit. Until then, we suggest leaving the whole unit switched off at the breaker.
