What E122 means

Halfway through a roast the oven cuts out and E122 appears. The probe in the meat socket is reporting a temperature above what the oven will tolerate, so heating stays off until it is removed. Bosch's first suggestion is a simple question: was it plugged in but left lying loose in the oven? Sitting in open air, a probe heats up quickly and, in a sense, correctly reports a number beyond its range.

Common causes of E122

  • Probe plugged in but not placed in food
  • Probe sensing element that has broken and reads high
  • Dirty jack or damaged cable
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Wearing an oven mitt, pull the probe's plug from its socket. 2. Lift the probe out of the cavity. 3. Restart your bake without it. 4. If the oven now heats, the probe or its use was the cause. If E122 comes back with no probe inside, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Reaching into a hot oven for a stuck plug risks a burn.
  • Tugging on the cable can tear a probe that was fine.
  • Replacing oven electronics for a probe problem is an expensive wrong guess.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E122E122 questions
Why did the roast stop cooking?

Heating pauses until the probe is removed. A roast that stalled this way usually just needs the probe out and the cycle restarted, perhaps with the probe actually in the meat next time.

Is a replacement probe the answer?

Not necessarily. First ask whether the probe lay loose on a rack while plugged in; that alone produces exactly the reading this code reports, and costs nothing to correct.

Could a dirty socket be the cause?

Yes. Grease in the socket can give false readings, so with the oven cold, a gentle wipe is a reasonable step before buying anything. Never wipe the socket while the oven is warm.
