What E01 means

The refrigerator may run nonstop, switch on and off in an odd rhythm, or let the food compartment drift out of the safe range, and E01 appears. The control board is not getting a usable reading from the temperature sensor in the refrigerator compartment, either because the sensor is giving bad data or because it has stopped communicating. Without that reading the board is steering blind.

Common causes of E01

  • Sensor (thermistor) that has drifted or failed
  • Sensor wire that is damaged or a connector that has loosened
  • Main control board that is misreading an otherwise good sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the fresh food section and look at the back wall and the vents. 2. Move anything that is pressing against the wall or covering a vent, so air can circulate. 3. Give the refrigerator several hours to settle, then check whether E01 is gone. If it is still showing, the sensor or its wiring is the likely cause and it is time to call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Replacing a control board when the sensor was the real culprit is a costly wrong guess.
  • The sensor wiring runs behind liner panels, and pulling them can crack plastic or tear the harness.
  • While E01 is active the temperature in the fresh food section is unreliable, so food safety matters more than the repair schedule.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E01E01 questions
Is my food safe while E01 is on?

Check with a thermometer: the refrigerator section should stay at or below 40F. If it is warmer, move perishables to a cooler until we can look at it.

Does unplugging it clear E01?

Only for a moment at best. A sensor that is actually bad will bring the code back as soon as the board reads it again.

Do you replace just the sensor?

When the sensor is the cause, yes. We confirm that first, give you a written price, and cover the repair with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
