What sets the HBE5452UC apart is a fan that turns both ways. This 500 Series 24 inch wall oven has been discontinued, but owners still use it. Bosch calls the feature 4D hot air: the convection fan alternates direction to level out the temperature in the cavity.
The oven holds 2.5 cu ft and is rated 4,000 watts, with settings that include slow roast, pizza, intensive heat, max broil and defrost besides plain bake, and it adds Home Connect and a soft-close door. Reversing the fan is a smart idea in a small oven, but it also means the motor works more than a conventional one, so it is an expected wear item over the years.
A soft-close damper in a compact door tends to tire too. Wi-Fi is a separate matter, since the cooking electronics do not depend on the connectivity module. If the connection drops, the oven keeps cooking. On a visit we check the fan motor and the door damper first.
During cooking the fan switches its direction of rotation, which levels out the temperature inside better than a fan that only spins one way. That is how a compact oven like this one can bake on several shelves.
Only if you use the app. Cooking does not depend on the connectivity module, so the oven keeps working indefinitely without it, and the module can be dealt with later.
It works harder than a conventional fan, so the fan motor is one of the parts we check first as the oven gets older and begins to make noise.
