Stagecoach got its name from a 19th-century stage route, and its streets still carry Western names such as Boot Hill, Wagon Wheel and Cimarron. The small town sits between Tomball and Magnolia on the wooded east bank of Sulphur Creek.

W. L. Schweinle ran a sawmill on Sulphur Creek from 1926 until the Depression. In the late 1950s a Houston firm platted Stagecoach Farms, and residents incorporated in 1974 to keep its deed-restriction standards. The town had 580 residents in 2020.
