Tamina is one of Texas's freedmen's towns, founded in 1871 by formerly enslaved people who helped build the Houston and Great Northern Railroad. It got its post office in 1897. A state historical marker for the Tamina Freedom Colony was dedicated in December 2025.
What we find in Tamina homes, and how it shapes a Bosch repair here.
The unincorporated community sits about a mile east of I-45 and 8.5 miles south of Conroe, between Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North. Many families trace their roots here for generations. Residents built their own churches and schools, and the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company opened its Tamina mill in 1917.
For decades Tamina had running water but no sewer: homes used septic tanks and bought water through the Old Tamina Water Supply Corporation. Montgomery County and the City of Shenandoah are now using about $21 million in federal recovery funds to extend water and sewer lines, beginning on Tamina Road in 2024.
Heavy rain is hard on septic systems. Until a house is on the new sewer, a washer or dishwasher that drains slowly during a wet week may be pointing at the septic line rather than the appliance, and we check the drain path before blaming the pump.
Homes here range from older family houses with freestanding ranges and top-load washers to newer construction with front-load laundry, Bosch dishwashers, gas cooktops and larger refrigerators.
Tamina is a short drive east of I-45 from Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North, and we book visits here for the next day. Tamina Community Park on Main Street is a helpful landmark when giving directions to a technician.
As homes connect to the new water and sewer service, a few appliance checks are worth doing. After a new connection or any work on the lines, run the kitchen tap for a minute before starting the dishwasher or washer, so sediment does not go straight into the inlet valve. If an ice maker slows down afterward, the water filter and inlet screen are the first things to check. If a dishwasher drains slowly after a plumbing change, the drain hose may have been kinked or the connection to the sink drain changed.
Sediment from new pipes often lodges in the inlet screen or valve. We clean or replace the screen and test the valve. Running the tap first after line work helps prevent it.
Yes. Tamina is on our south Montgomery County route with Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North, and we schedule visits for the following day, confirming a window by phone.
You get a written quote after diagnosis. We start only after you agree, and if our work fails within 30 days, we return to correct it.
Book in about a minute, or call the desk. Same-day windows inside the Loop on most days, next-day across the rest of Houston.
