What E123 means

Here the probe reports too cold a number, lower than the control is willing to accept, and the oven keeps its elements off until the probe is pulled. The first suspect is the food: a probe pushed into something still frozen does read very low, and legitimately so. If the food was thawed, attention shifts to the probe's own electrical resistance, to loose plug connections, and to a pinched cable.

Common causes of E123

  • Probe stuck into food that is frozen or still partly frozen
  • Probe sensing element worn out and reading too low
  • A loose plug or a squeezed cable on the probe circuit
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pull the probe from the food and from its socket. 2. Let it sit until it reaches room temperature. 3. Retry with fully thawed food; frozen food is the one cause you can rule out with no tools. 4. If E123 returns with thawed food, stop using the probe and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Probe wiring runs through the cavity wall near heating parts, so tracing it is not a home job.
  • A cold-reading probe and a loose connection give identical codes, and replacing the wrong part wastes money.
  • Pulling hard on a pinched lead can snap it inside the socket.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E123E123 questions
Can I cook frozen food with the probe?

Not reliably. A frozen center reads colder than the control accepts. Thaw the food first, or skip the probe and check doneness with a separate thermometer.

Is it the oven or the probe?

If it appears only with frozen food, it is neither. If it shows with thawed food too, the probe or its connection is the likely cause, and we can test both.

Is a replacement probe expensive?

Typically a probe is a modest part. We check the circuit first so you pay for the right thing, and you approve a written price before any work starts.
