After a self-clean cycle stalls, the door stays locked or refuses to latch, and E028 appears. The oven's lock mechanism did not do what the control asked, so the door cannot be trusted to be either safely shut or safely open. This is the code most often seen when a clean cycle gets stuck, and it is rated serious because the cavity may still be extremely hot.
1. Do not force the door. 2. Turn the oven off at the breaker for several minutes. 3. Let it cool all the way down; many lockouts release once the internal temperature drops. 4. Try the door again only when the oven is cool to the touch. If it stays locked, call us.
Until the oven is completely cool, which can take a few hours after self-clean. Many locks release on their own once the temperature falls, so patience often saves a repair.
The lock motor works hard during a clean cycle, and the intense heat strains the latch parts. A weak or worn lock can fail right at the end of the cycle.
Lock motor and switch repairs are common and generally moderate in cost. You see a written price first, and our repairs include a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
