Anyone who has owned an 800 Series wall oven for a few years knows the sound of a door that used to close gently and suddenly does not. The HBL8443UC is a 30 inch single oven in that line, with 4.6 cubic feet inside, a 5,000 watt rating, Home Connect and a soft-close door.
The soft-close action comes from a damper tucked into the hinge assembly, which slows the final stretch of travel. When the door starts dropping hard, the damper has worn out. The hinge is rarely the culprit, but the damper is replaced together with the hinge assembly as one part.
Other age-related items on this oven include the Home Connect link, which can drop after you change your home network, and the inner door glass, which may haze with baked-on grease after years of roasting. We check the door first, then the connection if the app has gone quiet.
The damper built into the hinge assembly has worn out. The hinge may still be sound, but Bosch usually supplies the damper and hinge as a single part, so the whole assembly is replaced.
You can preheat from your phone and watch the countdown. You can also send us the error code before we arrive, which can speed up diagnosis considerably.
Often the pairing was lost when the home network changed. The cooking itself usually still works, so reconnecting is the first thing to try before assuming a repair is needed.
