What E101 means

Heating stops, the cooling fan roars at full speed, and E101 shows on the display. The probe that measures cavity temperature has dropped off the circuit entirely, and Bosch blames either a disconnected sensor or a failing connection to it. The response is programmed in: fan to full speed, heating off. Heating comes back and the error clears after two successful readings in a row. On double ovens, codes starting with E1 belong to the single or upper cavity.

Common causes of E101

  • Probe that has died and left the circuit open
  • Plug at the sensor pulled loose or corroded
  • Wire snapped somewhere on the run back to the control board
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the breaker off for about two minutes, then back on. 2. Try a short bake to learn whether heating returns. 3. If it works and the code reappears later, that come-and-go pattern suggests a loose link and not a sensor that is simply dead. 4. Note the dates and tell us.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor and its connector sit inside the cavity wall, beside the heating elements.
  • A broken wire and a dead probe look identical, so replacing the probe alone may leave the real break in place.
  • Tugging at the sensor lead can pull it free from its connection.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E101E101 questions
Why is the fan running so loudly?

That is the oven protecting itself. With the temperature reading gone, the control spins the cooling fan up to maximum and shuts the heat off, which explains the noise.

Will it fix itself?

Sometimes. Bosch notes heating resumes once two successful readings come through. If the connection is intermittent, though, the code will keep returning, so a lasting fix needs a proper look.

Is it safe to use between episodes?

We recommend having it checked. An oven with a flaky sensor connection can stop mid-bake, and it can be hard to know when. A written price comes before any repair.
