Friendswood Development started the Woodlake subdivision at Westheimer and Gessner in 1969, and the Westchase Corporation bought 760 acres in 1973 to prepare corporate sites. Census figures show apartments dominating today: only about 1,250 of the area's roughly 17,400 housing units are detached houses.
Westchase is inside Houston city limits and served by City of Houston water. In apartment kitchens the dishwasher often shares a hot-water line with the sink, so if dishes come out cool, running the sink until the water is hot before starting a cycle is an easy check.
Garden-style apartments put laundry closets and refrigerators in small rooms that warm up fast when a summer storm cuts the power. After an outage, give a refrigerator several hours to come back to temperature before judging it, and toss food that stayed warm too long.
Rental units often have a basic 24-inch Bosch dishwasher and, in newer complexes, compact stacked laundry. Owner-occupied houses in Woodlake and nearby subdivisions more often have upgraded Bosch dishwashers and ranges.

Renters should check the lease before booking. Many complexes handle appliance repairs through their own maintenance staff, and an outside repair may not be reimbursed.
